A ‘Family Membership’ to the ASL RAPP video library costs $50 per year plus HST and provides 12 months unlimited access to the site. Each video in the library contains an ASL video of a classic children’s book. The book is shown page-by-page with an ASL storyteller signing the book. This format is great for parents and children who are learning ASL.
A member is allowed up to two concurrent streams (two people watching from the same account at the same time) to view the quality children’s title being shown page by page as an ASL storyteller signs the book. ASL RAPP streaming video content is only available when connected, there is no offline viewing.
Included in your membership is access to the Tip Sheets and story extending Craft Instructions connected to each story allowing you to further develop your emergent literacy knowledge and ASL language learning.
- Collection of top-quality children books.
- Each video has each page of the children’s book shown close-up with an ASL storyteller signing the book.
- Each video has an ASL vocabulary section where 10-20 words in the story are signed at regular and reduced speed to allow for repeated practice.
The videos are based on the Shared Reading Project (SRP) developed by the Le Clerc Centre at Gallaudet University. Adapted for our Canadian context, ASL RAPP supports the language and literacy development of young deaf children, fosters parent-child connection and encourages hearing parents in developing their own skills in ASL providing a foundation for family communication.
The site will be of great use to parents, relatives, friends, caregivers and anyone connected to a child who is deaf to help promote and encourage literacy, creativity and self-expression in their children, through stories and interactive activities.
Additional downloadable content to help support families and encourage continued literacy development.
